PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

  Doug
There was a gap between Doug's verbal ability and his poor reading skills. He could not finish the Bar exam in the allotted time. We referred him to a vision clinic, where they found that he had a rare vision problem. He needed to use colored gels and special lighting to increase the contrast of the text. We got Doug accommodations on the exam, granting him 150% of the standard time, as well as his own light and gels.
In the end, Doug passed the Bar!

  Kay
Kay had failed the Bar exam four times. In addition to a learning disability, we determined that Kay was suffering from emotional disturbance. Having grown up in a war zone, she lived with feelings of intense stress and anxiety. Through our interactions with the State Bar, she was given a private room and twice the assigned time to take the multi-state and the essay portions of the Bar.
She retook the exam and had a significant increase in her score.

  Rose
Rose was failing out of law school. Our tests revealed that she was dyslexic. We trained her in specialized studying techniques, and spoke to the Assistant Dean of her law school about her diagnosis. He immediately took her off academic probation and allowed to audio-tape her classes and to take her exams in essay form or in take-home form.
In the following quarter she went from 1.7 to 3.5 GPA!

  Brittany
Brittany was a high school junior with a documented history of Tourette's syndrome. She did very well at school but horribly at standardized tests. It was determined that she was successful at her own pace but "fell apart" under time pressure. We contacted the SAT board. Using school reports and documentation from our own testing, we were able to secure accommodations for her.
Brittany's scores have since increased significantly.

CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES

  Jason
Jason was a third grader who was having trouble in school, at home and with his physical health. He had difficulties with school performance and his standardized testing results were far below his potential. He had trouble staying attentive and was seen as the "class clown". He also had a breathing problem that was exacerbated by stress. Our work with Jason has resulted in positive changes to his health, academic performance and mood.

  Tina
Tina’s mother brought her in because she was concerned about Tina’s anger problems, school performance and emotional outbursts. Our work with Tina involved integrating individual therapy, academic tutoring, family therapy, interactions with her psychiatrist and personal trainer. Tina is now doing increasingly better in all areas involving her emotional growth, school performance and family communication.

  Darren
Darren was in second grade and was having difficulties in school as well as emotional and physical problems. He was partially deaf and had other physical ailments. Our work with Darren was done primarily with family therapy to help the parents become the child's best advocate as well as working with Darren’s school. Parents and child are now doing very well and the school paid for all of the special services that Darren was entitled to.
